The best location for your personal brand photography shoot.
This may sound a little mad but I find the background of your brand image is as important as the subject. Let me elaborate. The feel and ambience of the location of your brand shoot set the tone and it can be reflective of who you are. A few good locations can make your photo’s stand out. Not to mention, having a good variety of backgrounds for your brand photography shoot which can make your content go even further. So where do we start?
YOUR WORKSPACE
Think about where you spend most of your time for your business. Baking in the kitchen, teaching yoga in a studio or punching numbers at the office. Whatever you do the place you do is the most obvious location to start with. So we can showcase where the magic happens.
YOUR HOME
Most of us spend a lot of time in our homes. Like me, you may even work from home, so it makes sense to take some of your brand photos here! But, this option doesn’t work for everyone, ask yourself these questions:
Does the idea of having a photoshoot at home make you super excited to show off your fabulous abode? Or stressed about doing a load of cleaning before a shoot, it’s too small or are you renovating? That’s ok, I can work around things you’d rather not show the world.
Does your home have enough natural light? If it doesn’t get plenty of daylight I can use flash, but this does change the feel of the images so bear that in mind.
ASK A FRIEND
You may have a very lovely friend who’s just completely remodelled their home and let you borrow it for free! I recently did a shoot with Sassy of Cloudless Coaching where we did just that, we even used her bath!!!
OUTDOORS
Out and about in your favourite places is a great way to capture fun, relaxed headshot portraits. The light will be perfect and you’re free to move around. This is a great option to really show off your lifestyle, maybe you love going to the beach, or you have a passion for architecture. Outdoors is also perfect for highlighting particular seasons.
CO-WORKING SPACE
We are so lucky in Bournemouth to have some uber-cool co-working spaces. These can help to give the brand aesthetic you’re looking for. Making them a great brand photography location.
VENUES
If you’ve been working with a beautiful venue and built up a relationship with them it’s well worth a cheeky ask to use their space. Most are happy to help with a shout out on your social media. I did a wonderful shoot with Danielle, founder of The Little Flower Truck at The Old Vicarage. Danielle got to know the owners at wedding events, kindly gave us the run of the place. Lots of other small businesses are often very keen to help small business owners. So get to know your community and don’t be afraid to ask them for support. This can work for all types of locations from cafes, restaurants and shops. Anywhere you love to hang out can work for your personal brand photography shoot.
